In Spain, the regulator CNMC counted 131,772 postal complaints in 2024. The consumer organisation OCU handled close to 5,000 courier complaints in 2025. And when the claim is for damage, between 20 and 38% are rejected.
The number-one reason is “insufficient packaging”. Number two, “lack of evidence”. Both mean the same thing: you cannot prove how the parcel left.
The proof almost nobody has
The counter-proof carriers ask for is a photo of the original packaging, before shipping. Dated. With the parcel closed. Almost nobody has it, because photographing every parcel by hand does not scale, and a loose photo on a phone does not prove when it was taken either.
The legal compensation in Spain, without proof of value or condition, is €6.67 per kilo. A two-kilo laptop is worth, to the carrier, thirteen euros.
Writing the answer before the question
An outbound record with image, weight, dimensions and a sealed time turns the claim into a formality: the evidence already existed when the damage happened. Nothing to reconstruct. Just send a link.
